Description
The Shelly Pro 3 is a professional, three-channel smart switch designed to be mounted on a DIN rail in an electrical breaker box. Unlike the “PM” models the Pro 3 is a pure relay focused on flexible switching rather than measuring power.
Its standout feature is that it can control three completely independent circuits, including those on different phases of a 3-phase system.
Professional Connectivity: LAN + Wi-Fi
As part of the “Pro” line, it is built for maximum reliability:
- Ethernet (LAN) Port: You can hardwire the device directly to your router. This is essential for industrial or professional setups where Wi-Fi might be blocked by metal cabinets or is too unstable for critical controls.
- Wi-Fi & Bluetooth: It still supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and uses Bluetooth for nearly instant setup and pairing with the Shelly app.
Key Feature: 3-Phase Dry Contacts
The Pro 3 is incredibly versatile because it uses Dry Contacts (Potential-free).
- Independent Circuits: You can switch three different voltages or phases. For example, Channel 1 could control a 230V light, Channel 2 could control a 24V irrigation valve, and Channel 3 could be a simple contact closure for a garage door.
- 3-Phase Support: It is specifically designed to handle 3-phase automation, allowing you to switch individual phases of a larger system independently.

Best Use Cases
The Pro 3 is the “utility player” for your electrical panel:
- Multi-Zone Lighting: Control three separate floors or large rooms from a single panel-mounted device.
- 3-Phase Machinery: Switch industrial equipment where different parts of the machine run on different phases.
- HVAC & Irrigation: Manage multiple heating zones or various garden valves while keeping the control logic isolated from the high-voltage mains.
- Commercial Building Automation: Ideal for office blocks where you need hardwired reliability for common area lighting or temperature control valves.
Summary: Pro 3 vs. Pro 3EM
It is easy to confuse these two because they both have “3” in the name and live in the breaker box:
- Shelly Pro 3: A Switch. It turns 3 circuits on/off. It has no power monitoring.
- Shelly Pro 3EM: A Meter. It measures 3 phases of power. It has no built-in switching (unless you add an optional “Switch Add-on”).
Note: Whilst the Shelly configuration is mostly DIY, any electrical work must be done by a registered electrical contractor and we recommend Straton Electrical.
